  2. Most will want to see the roof, or at least clear photos, before they quote.

  3. Rain and wind can delay roof work, so agree on a plan with them for bad weather.

  4. Ask what guarantee they give on the work, and get it in writing.

Roofers: common questions

Q.01When is the best time to waterproof?

Ideally before the winter rains, in late summer or autumn. Roofers get busy once the first big fronts hit. Leaks can still be patched in winter between rainy spells.

Q.02Can a roofer come out while it’s raining?

Most won’t work on a wet roof because it isn’t safe, but many can put a temporary cover over the problem and come back once it’s dry.

Q.03Can a roofer help with an insurance claim?

The roofer can usually give you a quote and a short report for your insurer. Take photos of the damage first.

Q.04Do roofers charge to quote?

Some quote for free, some charge for an inspection on bigger jobs. Ask when they contact you.
